About Connect Four

Connect Four is the classic four-in-a-row strategy game. Take turns with the AI dropping discs into a 7-column grid — the first to line up four in a row, column or diagonal wins. Choose Easy, Medium or a Hard AI that searches seven moves ahead.

How to play

  1. You play red, the AI plays yellow; turns alternate.
  2. Drop a disc into any column — it falls to the lowest empty space.
  3. Connect four of your discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally to win.
  4. If the board fills up first, the game is a draw.
  5. Who goes first alternates between games.

  • Keys 1–7 drop into that column

Strategy & practical tips

  1. Look for a win on this turn, then check whether the opponent can win on the next turn. Immediate threats take priority over a distant plan.
  2. Use central columns to develop lines in several directions. Watch diagonals as carefully as horizontal and vertical runs.
  3. Count the empty spaces below a planned connection. Gravity means a promising square may not be playable until lower spaces are filled.

A common mistake

Blocking one visible three-in-a-row without noticing a second winning column. Two playable threats can force a loss.
