About 2048
2048 is the addictive sliding-number puzzle. Every move slides all tiles across the 4×4 board; two tiles with the same number merge into their sum. Build your way up to the 2048 tile — then keep playing to chase a higher score.
How to play
- Swipe or press an arrow key to slide every tile as far as it can go.
- Matching tiles that collide merge into one tile with their combined value, and that value is added to your score.
- A new 2 or 4 appears after every move.
- Reach the 2048 tile to win — you can keep going afterwards.
- The game ends when the board is full and no tiles can merge.

Strategy & practical tips
- Keep your largest tile near a chosen corner and try to arrange smaller values toward it. This reduces the number of places you need to reorganize.
- Check how a move shifts the entire board. A useful merge in one row can separate matching tiles in another.
- Keep empty cells available. Use the one-step Undo to review a move that traps a large tile or consumes your remaining space.
A common mistake
Changing direction only to chase an immediate merge without checking where the largest tile will land.
